Hockey is Fun

Hi. Just a quick post or two. I wanted to post a few things I have been working on. This is a cover for the Chautauqua Region WORD alt news weekly that will come out later this week. Jamestown, New York finally got a Mid-Atlantic Hockey franchise. The team name "Vikings" was somewhat of a controversy. Jamestown's heritage is pretty mixed but for a long while it was mostly dominated by two major immigrant groups: Italians and Swedes. Well, it looks like the Swedes won the battle for naming the hockey team.

The team roster was not available at the time this illustration was created, so the name on the back of the Viking jersey is simply "TOWNER" - a shortened version of Jamestown (call him Jim). The opposing player's jersey sports the last name "PIZAN" which is Italian slang for friend or pal (pisano actually). I threw in the Z to make it look more like a Czech last name. So now you get a faceoff between the Italians and the Swedes. That's Jamestown...

Nice! Love the Viking's face on the ice.

I thought that "word" was just for Preppygirl, but I realise that it's a Jamestown thing...
