The Next Big Thing...

I need the next big thing. I need the next important thing. I need to make it happen. I want the next thing. This isn't working for me. There's got to be more. I want it. I need to give myself an old fashioned pep talk. Where Knute Rockne when ya need 'im.

I think I need a morning mantra. Something to shake my head out of this mediocre nightmare that I have been accepting day after day after day.

Life is a work in progress. I am not willing to accept the meager progress that I am letting wash over me. It's time to kick some ass. That's a great mantra. KICK ASS.

Outta my way. It's time to move this. There's more. It will be mine.

It's All Downhill

Oh. So many ways to take this. Simple. True. The realization of mortality makes us do stupid stupid stupid things. I am reading too much into this. Cynical? Too cute? What? I don't know. It's just another strip, another week... this year is a Xerox of last. Trying to beat the doldrums of winter. Winter is winning.

Awesomeness and other Mundaneness

It would appear by the calendar on the wall that I have successfully survived another birthday. I chose not to get crazy about it. It was as low key as a birthday can get. I did nothing. I am nursing a cold.

I got some e-cards, a few snail mail cards, etc but the coolest thing I got was a call from my friend Cindy. Cindy lives in Plano, Texas. Plano, Texas has been a part of my life for many years. Plano Texas is the home of the Plano Molding Company. Fishermen and Artists all over know this. Plano Molding Company makes tackleboxes, which are great for art supplies.

Where did I meet Cindy? I met Cindy in the late 80's in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was in the same program at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Originally from New Jersey, Cindy was one of the best people I ever met in Florida. People from NYC and New Jersey have this really cool way of pronouncing my name. Most people say "Gary" so that it rhymes with "Airy". Cindy says it so that "A" is flatter and longer like in the word "Splat" or "Cat". I had an art teacher in Junior High who pronounced it that way. I like it. It's hot.

Anyway, I haven't spoken with Cindy in a long time. She gave me a call at work Friday. We laughed and caught up a little. It was really great hearing from her. She told me she reads this blog, and she didn't like the avatar I had up. She said it looked sad. It really did. So, Cindy and the rest of you... I have changed my avatar pic. Hope you like it. It's not really happier, but it sure isn't a miserable looking as the last one.

Moving a Pencil Again

Sketching again. The winter is a real buzzkill sometimes. It does, however, free up some time to draw. Sketching is fun. Here's a few pencil drawings which will become the basis for a few upcoming paintings. There's no reason for these. I think they will be funny. What do you think?

Another Cartoon...

Life has a way of getting in the way sometimes. It's been a busy couple of weeks. Last week I couldn't even get a strip done. The publication ran a rerun. Here's a new one. I am starting to get cynical again. I don't get it. I think sometimes that people are really basically horrible and despicable. It's a quality you can almost depend on. It's laughable. I think assuming the worst is human nature sometimes. It seems to be a way of life for some people. Perhaps assuming the worst makes us all more happily surprised when people aren't total assholes (or nice even)!

Playing Goalie...

I had a discussion with a close friend about setting goals. You just have to. I need some goals this year. Anybody have any spare goals?

One of my goals for this year is to set some goals for myself. I think it's a good goal. I have to figure out how to achieve those goal once I set them, of course. My second goal for this year is to figure out how to achieve my set goals once I set them (which is my first goal).

I will be posting my first goal here on this blog. Wait... I did it. I just set a goal! Telling you guys that I will posting my first goal here IS SETTING A GOAL! I guess THAT was my first goal. Woo hoo! I set a goal!

See I can set goals.
